BCS Syllabus — Subjects and Marks of the Preliminary and Written Exams

The BCS preliminary is a 200-mark MCQ exam (10 subjects), and the written exam is 900 marks for general cadres; for professional cadres, post-related subjects are added. BPSC publishes the full syllabus.

Preliminary (200 marks)

  • Bangla Language and Literature — 35
  • English Language and Literature — 35
  • Bangladesh Affairs — 30
  • International Affairs — 20
  • Geography, Environment and Disaster Management — 10
  • General Science — 15
  • Computer and Information Technology — 15
  • Mathematical Reasoning — 15
  • Mental Ability — 15
  • Ethics, Values and Good Governance — 10

Usually 0.50 marks are deducted for each wrong answer.

Written (General Cadre, 900 marks)

  • Bangla — 200
  • English — 200
  • Bangladesh Affairs — 200
  • International Affairs — 100
  • Mathematical Reasoning and Mental Ability — 100
  • General Science and Technology — 100

For professional/technical cadres, an exam on post-related subjects is added. Viva marks are according to BPSC rules/circular.
