IELTS for Study Abroad — Country Score Requirements, Registration and Alternatives
Guides
Types of IELTS
- IELTS Academic — for university admission
- IELTS for UKVI (Academic) — in some UK cases (e.g. below-degree or pre-sessional courses) a Home Office-approved test is needed for the visa
- IELTS General Training — usually for migration/work, not study
How scores work
Four sections — Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking — each 0–9 bands, averaged into an overall score. Universities usually give both an overall and a minimum per section (e.g. "6.5 overall, no band below 6.0").
Caution
Ads selling "IELTS certificates without the exam" are fraud. Universities and embassies verify results online — fake certificates lead to cancelled admission and visas, and can bring bans on future applications.
Admission, scholarship, test-score and visa rules can change every year — check the latest information on the university, scholarship provider and embassy websites before you apply.
